East River Park

Eastern border of the East Village
between the FDR Drive
and the East River

The largest City park in the East Village stretches south almost to Wall St. and offers magnificent views of Brooklyn, the East River and all its bridges.

Surrounding Park Headquarters there has been a lot of recent rehabilitation. New playing fields, pedestrian paths, plantings, benches and a refurbished performance arena offer the public a wide choice of recreational activities - running, biking, fishing, sports, walking and picnicing, to name a few.

Below and left: a whimsical, new, children's wading area features a family of bronze seals. Located at Park Headquarters at the south end of the park.

Above and right: the track at the north end of the park and the pedestrian thoroughfare in spring as it winds along the FDR drive.
Below: at the river's edge, the promenade is fenced off for much of the entire length of the park. It has been declared unsafe due to bulkhead deterioration that has underminded portions of the pathway and outer railing.
